The Place
A small corner of Bela Krajina that slowly became our way of life.
Tanča Gora is our home — a small homestead surrounded by fields, forest and the quiet landscape of southern Slovenia.
There is a garden that feeds us, a greenhouse that rarely behaves exactly as planned, animals that have their own ideas about how the day should unfold, and an ever-growing collection of projects, experiments and unfinished thoughts.
We didn’t set out to create a retreat or a tourist destination. We simply started building a life we wanted to live — closer to nature, more independent, more curious and with enough space to try things that might work.
Over time, it became a place worth sharing.
The idea
Curiosity is probably the closest thing we have to a plan.
We like asking questions. Could we grow this ourselves? Build it instead of buying it? Use less energy? Waste less water? Make better wine? Cook something we’ve never tried before? And occasionally — what happens if we connect this to that?
Some ideas work beautifully. Others teach us why nobody does them that way.
Tanča Gora has become our playground for both. A place where technology meets nature, old knowledge meets new ideas, and practical problems have a habit of turning into experiments.
There is no finished vision and no master plan.
That’s rather the point.
The People
Polona & Andrej
We are two naturally curious people who somehow ended up building a life together in Tanča Gora.
Neither of us is particularly good at leaving things exactly as they are. There is usually something being planted, rebuilt, cooked, repaired, tested or discussed — often several of those at the same time.
We share a love of good food, long conversations, nature and ideas. We also share a tendency to start projects before the previous ones are completely finished.
Tanča Gora reflects that. It is our home, our workshop, our garden, our kitchen and occasionally our laboratory.
And when guests are here, we enjoy sharing all of it — not as a carefully staged experience, but simply as part of life here.
